Problème de FreeNX

Je viens juste de perdre plusieurs heures à essayer de faire fonctionner un serveur FreeNX, avec sans-cesse cette erreur :

Cannot establish any listening sockets - Make sure an X server isn't already running

Pas très explicite ni très utile, et une recherche retournait beaucoup de résultas de personnes avec le même problème. La solution est simple, bien que presque impossible à trouver :

mkdir /tmp/.X11-unix
chmod 1777 /tmp/.X11-unix

Frustrant. Ensuite, tout fonctionne. NX a clairement besoin de ce répertoire :
